Citizen’s 1964 Demonstrations of their Parawater Watches
In 1959 Citizen introduced Japan’s first waterproof watch, and they adopted the name ‘Parawater’ for the case and crystal design. The first model to use this technology was a Deluxe hand winder – see here: https://sweep-hand.org/2012/01/22/this-weeks-featured-watch-20-the-parawater-deluxe/ By the early 1960s Citizen were … Continue reading
This Week’s Featured Watch #58 – Jet Automatic, 21j
The ‘Jet’ range of automatics was introduced by Citizen in October 1961. They used their in-house movement with circular, geared rotor and were made until around 1965. The first movement was the 0310, with 21, 23 or 25 jewels with … Continue reading
Jet Family
Here’s a group shot of my Jets – the most recent arrivals are the two on the left, the early plain dialled model and the Rookie. The Jets use Citizen’s circular geared rotor rather than the more usual swinging weight. … Continue reading
This Week’s Featured Watch #55 – the Jet Rookie
In the early 1960s Citizen used their ‘jet’ movement in their line of automatic watches. Featuring a circular geared rotor, the Jets have an unmistakable design once the case back is removed (see this page for more information: https://sweep-hand.org/the-jet-automatic/. Most of … Continue reading
This Week’s Featured Watch #48 – Jet Auto Dater Seven, 25 jewels
Citizen’s second generation Jet movements, the 41xx series, were launched in 1964 and were used in the ‘Seven’ auto dater models. They were made with 19, 25 or 35 jewels and a ‘Monthly’ model was part of the line-up, but … Continue reading
A Little Movie – Jet and Standard Automatic Movements
Citizen’s main automatic movement in the early 1960s was their ‘Jet’ circular geared rotor design. This was replaced from around the mid-1960s with the more familiar swinging weight rotor. So here’s a little video which shows the two side by side: http://s282.photobucket.com/albums/kk252/Sweephand/?action=view¤t=20121003170746.mp4
Jet Automatic Page Updated
I’ve added three schematics to the Jet Automatic page. These are exploded views of the movement showing how it is put together: https://sweep-hand.org/the-jet-automatic/
Jet Family Tree Published!
I’ve finally been able to complete a family tree for the Jet Auto Daters – after lengthy and patient searching I was able to get hold of definitive reference material. Interestingly the group incudes a hand winding model – essentially … Continue reading
Citizen’s Jet Automatic Movement
I’ve added a new page focusing on what is a unique feature of Citizen’s vintage automatics from the early 1960s – the ‘Jet’ movement. With its circular geared rotor this was Citizen’s standard caliber for its automatics in the early … Continue reading
