   Hi, I have a Citizen lady’s watch and I cannot tell by the serial number when it was made.
   On the back it has the following:
   3220-325788 Y0
   20604 16
   Japan 10

   I hope you can help.

     Hi Michelle – thanks for your question. I’m no expert on quartz watches after the late 1970’s, but after a bit of research I believe the 3220 movement in your watch was originally made in the 1980’s. I’ve found one 3220 model that was engraved on the back in 1986, so it was available at that time. The model number on yours is 3220-325788 which includes the movement number which is helpful since on many earlier models the movement number isn’t that obvious!

     The serial number on yours is 2060416. So it was made in June (indicated by the second and third numbers – 06) of either 1982 or 1992 (first number ‘2’ indicates the year, but we need to know the decade it was made in to pin down the exact year). Although it could be either of these if the movement had been introduced by 1982, my best guess would be 1992. The 3220 movements are described as ‘reasonably priced’, but 1982 was still relatively early in the quartz era and prices would still have been fairly high. By 1992 prices had dropped somewhat with mass production.

         You’re welcome 🙂 The dial code is consistent with the 3220 movement, although the rest of the number is different from the case back since it’s a part number for the dial.
